Instructor Matt Denzer shares why LGA Whistler should be on everyone’s bucket list

Every year, Academy Director and Leadbetter Master Instructor, Matt Denzer, heads north of the border to do our Canadian golf academy located in Whistler, British Columbia! Most commonly known as a world-class ski resort, the village of Whistler has grown increasingly popular as a top golf and mountain biking destination.

Each summer you escape the Florida heat and head to Whistler. What do you love about heading north each year?

I honestly, come up here to teach because of the environment and energy that Whistler has.  Everyone is so welcoming, the food, the people. It’s just a wonderful place for the family and for golfers!

When is the best time for someone to book their golf trip to LGA Whistler?

The Whistler golf season is from June until the middle of September. I am typically here for roughly the same time.

What makes LGA Whistler the ultimate vacation destination?

I just think Whistler and all the things that it has to offer from hiking, biking, site seeing to the food, and of course, the golf is a bucket list destination.  You combine that with our facility at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf course and, in my opinion, it provides one of the best environments to learn in the world.  Whistler should be a must-see for any golfer.

What type of weather can you expect?

Whistler’s weather is one of the biggest reasons to take a trip north of the border in the summer months. A typical day in July is a fresh 75°F/24°C making it perfect golf weather. With weather like that, you can comfortably spend the entire day outside golfing and exploring all Whistler has to offer.

What technology do you use at the Academy?

I use the following technology tools here in Whistler: the V1 app for Video Analysis, Trackman, Boditrack pressure mat, and Sportsbox AI.

What types of lessons are offered?

The following lessons are offered at the Whistler location

  • 2- and 3-day retreats
  • 1-,2-, and 3-day mini schools
  • Private lessons
  • Playing lessons
  • 2- and 3-day private program

Each lesson is customized to the golfer’s specific needs, based on an initial assessment. Playing lessons and retreats include golf at Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Club.

Where should guests stay on their trip to the Academy?

Whistler is about 2 hours north of Vancouver so guests should plan to stay within the Whistler village. The Fairmont Chateau Whistler, our partner hotel, is an award-winning hotel that sits at the base of Blackcomb Mountain. You are footsteps from great shopping and excellent culinary experiences. The village is ideal for families and business trips.

ABOUT MATT DENZER

Originally from Central Florida, Matt was introduced to the game of golf at the age of ten by his father. Matt had a successful junior golf career which included three top-five finishes in the Florida State High School Golf Championship. Matt received a full scholarship to attend Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida. While at Eckerd, Matt became the Captain of his college golf team, and then led the “Tritons” to their first-ever tournament victory. After graduating, Matt began teaching math in a local middle school. He enjoyed teaching tremendously, but the dream to play professional golf was one he wished to pursue full time. Matt began taking lessons at a Leadbetter Golf Academy with a certified golf instructor. He was so impressed with the teaching methods he was learning, he decided to forego his pursuit of playing golf professionally and joined the Leadbetter team in 2003. Since becoming an LGA Certified Golf Instructor Matt has had the opportunity to travel to many of the Leadbetter academies. Matt has spent two summers in Vail, Colorado, and has also taught in Naples, Florida; Nemacolin, Pennsylvania, and in Half Moon Bay, Jamaica.
