How Quinton Sherlock is Bringing Expert Golf Teaching to Bermuda

We sat down with Quinton Sherlock, the Director of Instruction at GOLFZON Leadbetter Academy in Bermuda. Located at the scenic Five Forts Golf Club in St. Regis Resort, the academy blends elite coaching with one of the island’s most picturesque course for an unforgettable golf experience.

GLA Bermuda offers world-class golf instruction for players of all levels, set against the stunning backdrop of Bermuda’s historic forts and ocean views. Quinton reveals his important personal relationship with golf, his history with GOLFZON Leadbetter, and his plan to make the game more accessible for those living in or visiting Bermuda.

Question: Quinton, to start us off, can you tell us a bit about your journey with GOLFZON Leadbetter? How did it all begin?

Answer: I first got involved with the Leadbetter education program around 2020 or 2021 while I was living in Ghana, West Africa. I was homeschooling five young people through their high school education and introducing them to golf. I wanted to enhance what I could offer them, so I enrolled in the GOLFZON Leadbetter Education certification program to gain more structured knowledge and resources.

Through that process, I went through all the levels, shadowed lessons, met other instructors, and really became part of the family. I visited the Reunion headquarters several times and attended multiple summits. Eventually, I invited Robin Symes to Bermuda to deliver a Level 1 seminar to our local coaches. That connection helped build momentum, and now I’m the license holder of a GOLFZON Leadbetter Academy at the beautiful St. Regis Resort, Five Forts Golf Club.

Q: Can you share more about the incredible work you’ve done in Ghana?

A: Absolutely. While my base is now in Bermuda, I still run the program in Ghana. The young people I trained there are now running it in my absence, continuing to provide basic education and introduce golf in a semi-rural area where, not long ago, most kids had never even heard of Tiger Woods. That mission is close to my heart, and I’m actively working on ways to sustain and expand it with support from GOLFZON Leadbetter and others.

Q: Why did you choose GOLFZON Leadbetter specifically?

A: It had a lot to do with David Leadbetter’s reputation. Growing up as one of Bermuda’s top junior golfers, I had exposure to high-level training in the U.S., including time at the Leadbetter Academy in Bradenton when it was beside the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy. I had early positive experiences with the Leadbetter approach and saw firsthand what it could do for elite juniors. So when I wanted to elevate my instructional capabilities years later, it made perfect sense to return to a brand I respected and already knew well.

Q: What does opening a certified Academy at St. Regis mean for golf in Bermuda?

A: It’s a game-changer. We’ve brought a globally recognized golf instruction model to Bermuda—something locals often had to travel overseas to experience. I don’t need to reinvent the wheel because the Leadbetter system already includes proven programming, from junior development to elite training. And with GOLFZON’s technology integrated, we’re offering an incredibly high-end instructional experience.

The partnership with St. Regis is also a perfect fit. Just as St. Regis represents luxury and quality in hospitality, Leadbetter represents the pinnacle of golf instruction. Together, we’re enhancing the sport for locals and creating an attractive offering for tourists looking for something special during their stay.

Q: Who is your typical student—both locally and among tourists?

A: Locally, I work with everyone—from juniors and beginners to scratch golfers. I’ve seen increased interest recently from low-handicap players who are coming in through referrals. For tourists, we mostly get adult learners, beginners, and leisure golfers who want to make the most of their time at the resort. The St. Regis provides a captive market for that, and we make sure everyone—from seasoned players to total newcomers—feels welcome and valued.

Q: What stood out to you during the onboarding process with the Leadbetter team?

A: The support and connection with the Leadbetter team have been incredible. From the start, it felt like joining a family. I spent time at Reunion shadowing lessons, attended summits, and participated in junior camps in both Orlando and New Jersey. Those experiences helped me build strong relationships with Robin, Ben, Sean, Brian, and others.

We also had Leadbetter team members visit Bermuda, which helped secure buy-in from the local golf community. When one of the local pros at the St. Regis completed his certification and visited Reunion himself, he returned feeling energized and welcomed. That only strengthened our alignment and helped accelerate the opening of the Academy.

Q: What’s next for the Academy?

A: We’re looking forward to our official grand opening this week. Ben is planning to attend, and that will be a major milestone for us. After that, our focus is on growing both the local and tourism-based instruction sides of the business. We’re just getting started.
